Benue Governor, Ortom Officially Dumps APC, Reveals His New Party

The Governor of Benue state has finally dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress on Wednesday as he announced his new party.

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Wednesday in Markurdi formally dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ortom defected to the PDP during a meeting with elected local government chairmen and councillors at the Government House Makurdi.
The governor has been a subject of speculations recently on his stance in the ruling party following disagreement with the party leaders both at state and national levels.
Ortom during his defection speech said that the APC ward chairman in the state was “ready to join” him in PDP.
He said that he has forwarded the letter of his resignation from the All Progressives Congress to his ward chairman.
Ortom was elected on the platform of the ruling APC in 2015.
Earlier on Wednesday, youths under the auspices of ‘Coalition of Benue Youths’ and comprising 40 groups on Wednesday have forced the driver of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, to remove the flag of the ruling All Progressives Congress from his car.
The youths also prevented the governor from proceeding to Abuja, where it was understood that he was to attend a meeting with APC leadership, with the aim of settling the rift between him and APC leader in the state, George Akume.
