A six-man syndicate which allegedly specialize in vandalizing and stealing light-up cable wires in Lagos State has been arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the state Police Command.

The suspects, Jelili Abodunrin, 32, Tunde Alaba, 29, Taofeek Oyedele, 28, Saheed Ismail, 27, Sunday Obasanmi, 27, and Deji Afolorunso, 26, who confessed to the crime, were apprehended at the wee hours of Monday under the bridge at CMS bus stop.

While being paraded on Tuesday before newsmen, the suspects revealed that they have been living under the bridge for about 4 years.

They specialize in vandalizing and stealing light-up cable wires, street lamps and light poles installed by the Ambode-led administration to illuminate the State, after destroying the streetlights powering the area and its environs.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, SP Dolapo Badmos, who paraded the suspects, said RRS operatives who were patrolling the area, sighted them in the act of pulling down the street lamps, cables and poles, before mobilizing more officers for their eventual arrest and movement to RRS Headquarters, Alausa.

“They have been transferred to the Lagos State Environmental Task Force for prosecution,” the PPRO stated.
