A drunk woman who allegedly tried to speed off from the scene of an accident in the eastern suburbs was successfully chased down by the owner of a car she hit on Saturday night.
“Patrons at Double Bay’s Cosmopolitan Café heard a large bang just after 11.30pm—the sound of a 24-year-old female driver allegedly hitting a parked car before she sped off down Knox Street.
Up to a dozen men sprinted to stop the offending car, bolting from their table at the cafe, yelling “stop that woman”. The men c@ught up with her at the end of Knox street and took her car key.
The woman was apologetic and offered to pay the owner of the Cafe. “I’ll give you five grand, understand?”
The owner then rang police who were on the scene shortly after. The woman was breath tested and allegedly returned a positive reading at which point she began to cry.
She was taken to Kings Cross Police Station where police will claim she returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.095.
The woman was charged with mid-range drink driving and her license was suspended on the spot.
